For you to get the expected results after a breast augmentation surgery, you need to follow all of your doctor's orders and recommendations.

Once you’ve decided to get breast implants you should listen to your doctor's indications very carefully and do as he/she says to avoid mishaps and reduce any risks before, during and after the surgery.

Before surgery

It’ll take at least two weeks for you to get ready for a breast surgery. You’ll have a medical team advising you what’s to be done prior to the procedure. Some of these recommendations are:

  • Stop medicine intake: Common medications, such as aspirin, have an anticoagulant effect; antidepressants and herbal remedies are contraindicated as well. You must stop taking them at least two weeks before the surgery. In case you don’t, you doctor’s decision may be to postpone it.

  • Low sodium diet: You should limit your sodium consumption, avoid red meats and drinks that contain caffeine. Also stop the intake of any kind of supplements that contain garlic powder and/or vitamin E, because they also work as anticoagulants.

  • Stop drinking and smoking: You should, by all means, avoid alcohol and tobacco. Both substances affect vascular constriction and can interfere with some of the medication used during the surgery.

  • Be especially hygienic: A couple of days prior to the surgery you may start washing your breasts with a germicidal soap to reduce infection risks during and after the surgery.

After surgery

  • Protect your bandages: Once you're discharged from the hospital, you should keep your breasts bound up according to your doctor’s instructions. This can be quite annoying, but it’s essential in order to achieve the desired results. You must be careful not to wet your bandages. A few days later, the bandage will be replaced with an orthopedic bra.

  • Take care of your stitches: Wash them carefully with water and neutral soap. Try not to move them while rinsing to help them scar correctly and avoid infections.

  • Avoid any abrupt efforts: To keep your stitches from ripping open again, you must stay in moderated rest for at least two weeks. Don't lift any heavy objects (no more than 4.4 lb) nor raise your arms above your shoulders. All this care will help the healing process and prevent your wound’s risk to open.

  • Hide from the sun: During six weeks following your breast augmentation, you must avoid sun bathing. If you expose your body to sunlight, there’s a risk for your scars to tan differently and therefore they’ll be more visible. This is why this kind of surgery is better if performed during winter, so sunlight won’t affect in the long term.

Keep an eye on your diet

After surgery, you must follow a bland diet, which means no fats or irritating foods because your doctor will prescribe some antibiotics that are aggressive to your intestinal microbiota, and you won’t want to hurt it any further.

You'll need to be very careful and follow doctor's orders to achieve the results you've always dreamed of.

Remember, your new breast implants require special care, so if you pay special attention to them, you'll be able to flaunt your new curves without worries.
